The Division of Safety and Health is one of five divisions within the Worker Protection Bureau. We make keeping New York’s workforce safe our number one priority. The Safety and Health umbrella includes nine Programs. We also offer safety and health information and assistance to employers and employees.

Public Employee Safety & Health

The Public Employee Safety and Health Bureau (PESH), created in 1980, enforces safety and health standards promulgated under the United States Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and several state standards.

Safety, Health, and Essential Rights Program

The Safety, Health, and Essential Rights Program oversees Airborne Infectious Disease Outbreak Prevention Plans, Workplace Safety Committees, COVID Paid Sick Leave, Warehouse Worker Protection, and Construction Fatality Registry.

Extreme Weather Guidance Protecting Outdoor Workers New Legislation In Effect January 2022 Elevator Licensing Information

Effective January 1, 2022, new legislation requires businesses and occupations that engage in design, construction, installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, alteration, service, and repair of elevators and other conveyances to be licensed by the New York State Department of Labor.

New Legislation Construction Industry Fatality Registry Law

New reporting requirements are in effect in relation to workplace fatalities in the construction industry.
